How to participate

Thank you for your interest in participating in Quality Counts!

Quality Counts is San Mateo County’s Quality Improvement Initiative for early care and education programs. We invite you to join the early childhood community in continuous site quality improvement!

Various resources are available to you as a Quality Counts San Mateo participant. You will have access to coaching, priority to participate in our Early Learning and Care (ELC) Stipend program, Professional Development opportunities, and financial incentives.

Any licensed family child care educator, licensed center or license-exempt center serving children from birth to age five in San Mateo County is eligible to apply.

What to expect

Quality Counts San Mateo County provides a framework, standards and quality improvement supports for early learning programs large and small. It creates a powerful professional development path for early educators, helping them to continually assess and improve the quality of their services.

Quality Counts supports sites in three core areas: child development and school readiness; teachers and teaching; and program and environment.

Quality Counts participants will each be assigned a quality improvement navigator (QIN) who will provide assistance throughout the Quality Counts experience.

  • 1Attend an orientation welcoming you to the Quality Counts program
  • 2Complete a participation agreement and brief site application
  • 3Meet with a Quality Counts Quality Improvement Navigator (QIN) to get onboarded to Quality Counts San Mateo
  • 4Take advantage of Quality Counts trainings, technical assistance, and Early Learning and Care Stipends program
  • 5Based on your program needs, create an action plan to make realistic quality improvement
  • 6Receive a quality improvement grant, training, individual education and professional stipends, materials, and technical assistance to achieve goals in your plan
  • 7Be recognized for your participation in Quality Counts
  • 8Continuous quality improvement helps programs and children to thrive!
